Teen

TEEN at 529, October 24, 2012
Brooklyn's Teen, led by ex-Here We Go Magic's Teenie Lieberson, have released a new song, Carolina.  I like the way they deconstruct the song toward the middle, and then slowly put the parts back together.

Parquet Courts

Can't get this song out of my head.

Parquet Courts haven't announced any plans to play Atlanta yet, but I'm sure our paths will cross at sometime this year. . .

Companion

A couple years ago, a song called Shake This by Pepi Ginsberg managed to surface on my iPod - I wasn't  sure where I got it from and had no idea who Pepi Ginsberg was, but I liked the song and it quickly got saved to my "Do Not Delete" directory.  I listen to it still.

Well, now I learn that Ms. Ginsberg formed a new band called Companion last year, and has already released a couple of songs and videos.

I'm expecting great things from this Brooklyn-based band.  They have a few gigs scheduled in and around NYC, but I don't see any evidence of plans to tour yet.  They'd be a great band to hear at The Earl or 529, possibly supporting someone like Twin Sister.

Hilang Child

Geneticists argue about the influence of the so-called explorer gene, a mutant strand of DNA present in 20 percent of the global population. The gene is linked to traits of curiosity and restlessness, and found more frequently in societies with histories of long migration. Likewise, anthropologists divide personality types into neophobes (those who fear novelty), neophiles (those who seek it) and neophiliacs (those who are addicted to it). Every day, it seems, we’re discovering new ways humans are hardwired to engage in novelty—to seek out the new, whatever the cost.
