Update:  I just noticed that J Mascis is wearing the same Void t-shirt that Stephen McBean of Black Mountain wore at MFNW 2012.

Shit I Missed (continued)

Due to my on-going struggles with bath-salts addiction,  I missed this evening's performance of Terry Riley's seminal composition In C at The Goat Farm.  That record changed my life.

Okay, so I was kidding about the bath-salts addiction. I probably couldn't find bath salts on a map - I don't even know if they're around any more.  I actually missed the concert because I had forgotten the 7:00 pm start time, early by the rock-music standards I'm used to.

I wasn't kidding about the record's impact.  I didn't get a hold of a recording of the 1964 composition until about 1975, but like most people who've heard In C, it changed my whole perception of what music was and what music could be.

This was released last February, so it's not exactly new, but I just finally came it across it today.  Pretty cool, so I thought I'd share.

Shit I Missed

So it seems that not only am I not going to be able to catch Local Natives' Monday night gig at The Tabernacle in September, but last night, I missed the first Twin Sister show in Atlanta since 2010 (I saw them at The Earl in 2010, The 529 in 2011, and The Earl again in 2012).

The reason I missed them this time around was NOT because I was at The Breeders concert at Variety Playhouse.

Damn you National Brownfield Conference!!!

So, Local Natives have expanded their already long-running tour plans to finally include some dates in the American South, including a performance September 30 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta.

Naturally, September 30 is a Monday, the one night of the week that I won't be able to see them.

I Hate Music

Chapel Hill's Superchunk, back together after a nearly decade-long hiatus, will be playing Portland's Crystal Ballroom on Friday, September 6th as part of MFNW 2013.  

Here is what's known so far of the MFNW schedule:

Wednesday, Sept. 4 - Deerhunter at Crystal Ballroom

Thursday, Sept 5 - Austra (venue TBA)

Friday, Sept. 6 - Superchunk at Crystal Ballroom

Saturday, Sept. 7 - Godspeed You! Black Emperor  at Roseland Theater (Sept. 6 as well)

For those us you who can't wait until Sept. 6, or aren't planning to go to Portland in September, Superchunk will also be playing Seattle's Bumbershoot on Monday, Sept. 2, or if that still doesn't help you, Atlanta's Terminal West on August 22.
