Last night, Lloyd Cole - yes, that Lloyd Cole, formerly of the Commotions - performed a set of country and folk songs at Eddie's Attic. The management discouraged any talking by the audience, and even Cole criticized some of his own fans at one point for being insufficiently attentive.
There's a certain art to keeping an audience's attention and it centers on being interesting and reaching out to them, and not having the wait staff go "Shhhhh" between every song.
Eddie's Attic has got to be the least rock 'n' roll music venue in Atlanta.
There was a very loud, heated and somewhat drunken discussion about the shushing in the powder room after the show, during the course of which someone was heard to utter, "And that's why I haven't been back here in fifteen years!" That's all I'm going to say, because you already know how I feel about it.
