As noted yesterday, in September I'll be off to Raleigh for the Hopscotch Festival, largely to see Montreal's Godspeed You! Black Emperor on the opening Thursday night.
Now I learn that Godspeed will perform the next evening (September 11) at Atlanta's Variety Playhouse. Since they won't be constrained by the schedule and timetables of a festival setting, it may well be a longer set than at Hopscotch, and if Hopscotch presents them in the same outdoor stage in City Plaza where the headliners played last year, it may be difficult to fully appreciate the band's intense film and video show (their projectionist is as much a part of the band as the musicians).
On the other hand, there's always the possibility that Godspeed will pull something special out of their hats for the festival setting at Hopscotch.
An intriguing situation . . .
