Just Rambling, Don't Mind Me

Generally speaking, I would rather hear something new than something familiar. My mind is apparently more sequential than veridical.

But today is the 50th anniversary of The Beatles one and only performance in Atlanta.  It seems like an appropriate day to let those familiar songs and melodies arise from the deep recesses of our memories.

A side note to all those bands that are touring right now but aren't playing anywhere near the American South:  The Beatles played here.  Hell, the Sex Pistols made their American debut here.

But back to the point: there's nothing wrong with a little nostalgia now and then.  In fact, without some nostalgia, we would have no framework or context for the new music being produced now.

A few years ago, Portland's Chromatic's included in their album Kill For Love a cover of Neil Young's Hey Hey My My, which they titled, Into the Black.  Even the new covering the old becomes old itself with time.  Funny how that works.

  1. Sometimes, one is limited by what is available. If I can't be bothered with hooking up my i-pod, I have to listen to vintage cassette tapes in my ancient car. I'm so far out, I'm on the way back.
