New York, 1974

I lived in New York in 1974 while many of the jazz legends (Miles, Mingus, Hubbard, Rahsaan and Sun Ra) were still alive and performing, but while all the jazzmen of the time were playing crazy lines, Anthony Braxton, who is still with us, was operating on a whole other level and spitting out quadratic equations during his solos.  Both the individual solos within and the overall composition of Comp 23b seem to be governed by some unfathomable mathematical formula.

The Brax is arguably the godfather of math rock.
