Black Mountain

Black Mountain at The Earl, Nov. 12, 2010
Here's Black Mountain, the world's rock greatest band (North American Division), playing Space To Bakersfield, a long, leisurely psych-rock masterpiece and the closer of their new album, IV, at KEXP in Seattle.

Black Mountain will perform at Terminal West on June 22, a scant twenty days from today.

We've only seen Black Mountain twice before, so we're really looking forward to their upcoming set. However, one of those shows that we did see, at the Doug Fir in Portland during MFNW (RIP) 2012, was also caught on video by KEXP (dude, I was there!).

The Case For Plaza

Quilt at The Earl, March 8, 2016
Radiohead's excellent Moon Shaped Pool may have just bumped Quilt's Plaza off of our Top Ten Albums of 2016 (So Far), but we have a feeling that Quilt will return and by the end of the year both albums will be on our Top 10.

Here's Quilt at KEXP making the case for Plaza's return.

Radiation City

Since playing at The Earl back on February 27, Radiation City's Elisabeth Ellison (above) got a cool new haircut, but during their recent stop at KEXP, the band still sounds just as great as ever.

This is all pretty self-explanatory (but here I go anyway): Portland's Lost Lander at Seattle's KEXP.

Dakha Brakha

Dakha Brakha at Bumbershoot 2014
Ukraine's Dakha Brakha, the stand-out performers at Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival in 2014 (best Bumbershoot ever), performing at KEXP on September 26, 2015.  Imagine if Dirty Projectors reinterpreted Larks Tongues In Aspic as a Slavic folk opera, and you might get some idea what this incredible band sounds like.

Alex G

Alex G at Terminal West, June 2015
Philadelphia artist Alex Giannascoli (aka Alex G) delivers his seventh full-length of “‘90s-influenced folk-pop combining a casual, lo-fi sound with his fragile, sometimes pitch-shifted vocals and melancholy melodies.”
That's from the KEXP blog.  I don't think I have anything to add, so I'll just quote them verbatim, but I don't know who they're quoting in their quote.

What's Old Is New Again

LA's Silversun Pickups performing their 2006 song Lazy Eye last September 15 at Seattle's Sun Liquor.  Is it too soon to get over the 90s and engage in some 2000s nostalgia?

Mynabirds

Mynabirds at the Earl, June 28, 2012
More difficult Rocktober decisions to make: on Tuesday, October 29, Peaches will be performing at Terminal West, MDW favorite Jonathan Richman will be performing at the 40-Watt in Athens, and The Mynabirds will be performing at Aisle 5.

While we're disappointed that Richman won't be performing in Atlanta on this tour, a mid-week road trip to Athens for an evening show can be brutal, so the choice comes down to Peaches vs. Mynabirds, and this video may very well have tipped the scales in favor of Laura Burhenn and company.

Speedy Ortiz

Speedy Ortiz at Shaky Knees, Atlanta, May 2015
It appears that Speedy Ortiz' tour has brought them 'round to Seattle, where they did a KEXP studio performance.

Interviewer: I noticed the Gender is Over tank top on your amp last night at the show.

Sadie: Yeah. I ordered it online and it didn’t come in time to bring on tour, so peeps brought one to the show and it’s not the size I wanted so I just taped it on the amp.

Interviewer: Totally, why the fuck not?

Sadie: Gender’s over. If you want it.
