Music Dissolves Water approves of this video, which brings together some of our favorite things, including Malian music and Terry Riley's composition. Performers include Damon Albarn on melodica and Brian Eno on vocals, as well as Adama Koita (kamel n'goni), Alou Coulibaly (calabash), Andi Toma (additional percussion and kalimba), André de Ridder (violin, baritone-guitar, and kalimba), Badou Mbaye (djembe and percussion), Bijou and Olugbenga (vocals), Cheick Diallo (flutes), Defily Sako and Modibo Diawara (kora), Guindo Sala (imzad), Kalifa Koné and Mémé Koné (balafon), and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Nick Zinner (guitar), with additional guitar by Jeff Wootton.

Shit I Missed (continued)
Due to my on-going struggles with bath-salts addiction, I missed this evening's performance of Terry Riley's seminal composition In C at The Goat Farm. That record changed my life.
Okay, so I was kidding about the bath-salts addiction. I probably couldn't find bath salts on a map - I don't even know if they're around any more. I actually missed the concert because I had forgotten the 7:00 pm start time, early by the rock-music standards I'm used to.
I wasn't kidding about the record's impact. I didn't get a hold of a recording of the 1964 composition until about 1975, but like most people who've heard In C, it changed my whole perception of what music was and what music could be.
