I've been aware of Tanya Tagaq for several months now, but with this new video for Uja from her album Animism, it's getting difficult, if not inappropriate, to not post her.
Tagaq is from the far, northermost part of Canada, and practices a form of First People throat singing involving a combination of husky chanting and low growling. It's different from Mongolian and Tibetan throat singing and it's a window into the soul of the earliest settlers of this once wild continent.
