Alternative Top 5 List, October 11, 2020

Gorillaz' The Pink Phantom, a collaboration with Elton John and rapper 6lack, remains in the No. 1 spot because of course it does.  It sounds exactly what you'd think Elton John singing with Gorillaz would sound like.

The No. 2 and No. 3 spots switch place from last week - last week's No. 2, an electro-pop number by Romy titled Lifetime, is now No. 2 and last week's No. 2, Californian Soil by London Grammar, is now No. 3.

The trend these days, at least since I started this series, is a new song will debut somewhere in the Top 40 and then drop down from wherever it debuted.  But this week, our new No. 4 song, Can I Believe You by Fleet Foxes, was No. 19 last week and is celebrating its third week on the charts. This week's No. 5, Low by Chet Faker, was No. 18 last week  Exceptions to the rule bucking the trend.

Looking down the list, the most interesting thing I see is The Antlers' Wheels Roll Home debuting at No. 32.   Atlanta's Faye Webster (Atlanta Millionaires Club) has a song, Better Distractions, at No. 37, and ex-Woods bassist Kevin Morby has two songs on the charts - Sundowner at No. 27 and Wander at No. 39.  The rest you can hear for yourself on the radio.
