This may be one of the most important songs of 2020, and that's not hyperbole. The inimitable Sufjan Stevens creates redemptive art out of the chaos of our times, directing our attention to the larger context of everything that's going on.
And then, out of nowhere, favorite band Animal Collective reinvent themselves. After much pandemic-induced isolation, they decided to change the cover picture of their 2006 EP People, which formerly featured a drawing of a black "mammy" behind two white children. Not in sync with the current times. They also renamed their 2003 album Here Comes The Indian to Ark, out of respect to indigenous people. And beyond mere symbology, they are donating a portion of the sales of both records to appropriate causes and charities.
They also now have their entire discography available on Bandcamp.

But the best part is they also dropped a surprise new EP, Bridge To Quiet. It's a new sound for Animal Collective, or perhaps a reinterpretation of an earlier sound. Their last album as a full band, Painting With, had them going in a poppier direction much to my disappointment, although their solo, individual output was still satisfyingly experimental. But the songs on Bridge To Quiet sound like ambient remixes of Feels- and Sung Tongs-era AnCo songs, a sound I really like. It's a terrific EP and well worth your purchase. Here's the title track:
